my turn. i have read the Ram thread and the Ford thread enough times to quote them.
there is a 2021 Silverado 2500 HD LT crew 4x4, 6.6 Duramax, 58,000 miles, at a lender yard in Midland, Texas, on the lake park site. the delivery line on the listing: no charge for the first thousand miles from Lake Park, $0.70 a mile past that. google puts Midland to Lake Park around 1,240 and Midland to my place in Williston closer to 1,300 up through Colorado and Wyoming. so which one counts? 240 over is $168, 300 over is $210. i can live with either. i just want the number before i bid, not on the invoice.
and is it smarter to fly down and drive it home myself?

mine was inside the free miles, so i never had to find out. email and ask for the delivery figure to your address in writing before you bid. they answered my photo question the same day.
then do the other math. hotshot guys around here are quoting $1.60 to $2.10 a mile to move a pickup right now, and that is with the empty miles home built in. 1,250 miles at those rates is 2,000 to 2,600. whatever number you get back, it is going to be the cheap one.

fly and drive, from a guy who has done it twice. Williston to Midland is XWA to Denver to MAF, figure 350 to 450 one way this time of year. a motel night. 1,300 miles at 14 or 15 mpg is around 90 gallons, call it 330 in diesel. two days off work. and you are driving a truck you already paid for across five states before any mechanic has touched it. the delivery charge wins easy.

emailed friday night, answer came tuesday, so nobody is on the inbox over the weekend. the broker in lake park wrote back with a delivery charge for my address in Williston: $168. it is in writing, so that is what goes on the invoice if i win.
bid went in at 41,500. dealers in Minot and Dickinson want 49 to 52 for 21 LT Duramaxes with about the same miles.

i lost my first one too, so don't fall in love with it. if it is yours, be home the day it lands, the driver wants a signature and he is not waiting around all afternoon. and get it on a hoist with somebody who knows Duramaxes the first week, so anything wrong gets written down while you are still inside the 30 days.

closing this out after two months. lost the Midland Silverado. somebody went over 41,500 and i will never know by how much.
won the next one. 2020 Ram 2500 Tradesman crew 4x4, 6.7 Cummins, 71,000 miles, off a yard in Tyler, Texas, at 38,200. Tyler is closer, the overage on the invoice was $56, same figure the lake park people emailed me before i bid. it landed in Williston last friday at minus 12, 14 days after the wire, on a three car trailer driven by a guy out of Fargo.
so the answer to my own question: ask for the number, it is small, and fly and drive only makes sense if you want the road trip. a shop in town went through it with tony's list from the Ford thread. it needs rear brakes, and that one is on me.
